This website is a collaboration between Debbie Hynes of The Quest for Thylacoleo and Chris Rehberg of Where Light Meets Dark.
In mid 2007 Debbie completed a 3 year biodiversity survey in Victoria, Australia, which extended the known range of the recently discovered mountain brushtail possum ( caninus).
In July 2006 Chris launched his website which is dedicated to examining the evidence for rare fauna.
There are few published references to the fact that at least 5 Tasmanian devils ( harrisii) have been collected from the state of Victoria on mainland Australia between 1903 and 1991.
This site is dedicated to the search for mainland devils.
Some researchers estimate that over 85% of the Tasmanian population of devils has succumbed to the fatal devil facial tumour disease (DFTD).
The discovery of a mainland population of devils, regardless of its origin, would be significant for the continuation of the species.
Our goals are:
- to research the five historical mainland specimens,
- to provide a place for members of the public to report mainland devil sightings or vocalisations, and
- to report on the progress of our deployment of automated cameras in the wild in the search for mainland devils.
