Australian Reptile Park breeds devils successfully

Australian Reptile Park has successfully bred Tasmanian devils again this year. The latest discovery is of four pouch young in the pouch of Patch - a four year old resident. A total of six female devils are believed to be carrying young this year including two aggressive devils named Gretel and Gympy.

There are now about 140 devils in quarantined breeding programs: about 70 in Tasmania and 70 on the mainland. Of the mainland breeding devils, the Australian Reptile Park holds a little under half. Last year the park produced 8 of the 13 devils bred on the mainland.

The father of Patch's offspring is Neil and the pair produced three males last year.
