Push for upgrading devil to endangered status
Tasmanian Greens minister Nick McKim - the man responsible for first proposing the Tasmanian devil be listed as vulnerable on the Threatened Species List - has stated that the species's should now be upgraded to endangered.
Mr McKim believes that Primary Industries Minister David Llewellyn "is sitting on [the] recommendation". Mr McKim claims "The only language Labor seems to understand is the bottom line, so it is imperative that we understand the financial consequences of a failure to invest adequately in the fight to save the Devil".
"Unless we want the devils to become zoo exhibits only we need more investment into the fight to save the Devils, and the Greens are now demanding that both state and federal governments significantly increase funding commitments" says Mr McKim.
