Gunn's Pulp Mill to create devil habitat

The general public is overwhelmingly crying out that the Gunn's Pulp Mill will be an environmental catastrophe. It has the potential to decimate Tasmania's old-growth forests through normal operations and seriosly affect the air in Tasmania's north, the marine environment of Bass Strait and fishing industries throughout southern Australia.

"The litmus test is whether the big parties are really going to permit a polluting pulp mill, with carcinogens going into the air, and cancer-forming agents going into Bass Strait and into the fisheries, and the rapid erosion of the native forest and wildlife habitat of Tasmania," Senator Brown said.

One condition of approval is that Gunns will have to rehabilitate 200 hectares of land to be used as Tasmanian devil habitat.
